This 547-acre macadamia
plantation is located north of the town of Herediana, which is 6 kilometers
before Siquirres, east of the Central Valley Ridge Cloud Forest on the main
highway to the Atlantic. Access is by paved road except for about 1
kilometer. The altitude varies between 500 and 700 meters which is excellent
for macadamia.
There are approximately 35,000 trees, and except for a few minor areas,
trees are planted 80 to an acre. The trees ages are between 2 and 9 years
old. The variety mix planted most are Willow at 50% and 25% 344 and 508.
There are also some 294, Yonik, Smooth Queen and 660 planted in areas where
they are more advantageous.
The main home on the property has approximately 2,500 square feet. It sits
on a point where there is a fantastic distant view up and down the Caribbean
coastline. There is also a very large building set up as a processing plant
with a large refrigerator room capable of holding up to 25 tons of nuts at
50 degrees. Within the same complex, there is a guard home, barn and garage.
At another location, there are 3 worker homes; two 3-bedroom concrete homes
and one 2-bedroom wooden home. The plantation is divided into four
farms.
